Comprendre les certifications des chaussures sans se casser la tête
Certifications are kind of like the secret language of safety footwear… but don’t worry, we’re keeping things simple and friendly. At Pilote & Filles, we design our safety shoes and boots with your real life in mind: long days on your feet, busy job sites, dusty workshops, slippery floors, and tools lying absolutely everywhere. We want you to feel strong, comfortable in your P&F boots, and above all, safe.

1. The Green Triangle – Puncture Resistance + Protective Toe
The CSA Z195 certification is the foundation. The green triangle indicates that your safety footwear is equipped with a puncture-resistant midsole and a protective toe cap capable of withstanding an impact of 125 J (the equivalent of a 22.7 kg / 50 lb weight dropped from 0.6 m). Depending on the model, this toe cap can be made of steel or a lighter composite material — both designed to keep your toes safe.

The puncture-resistant midsole can withstand a force of at least 1200 N (270 lb). It may be made of steel or lighter, more flexible composite materials, depending on the model. Either way, it’s built to stop sharp objects from penetrating your sole.

In simple terms: if something heavy falls on your foot, your boot absorbs the shock… and if you step on something sharp, the sole does its job. The result? You carry on with your day (and your latte) without a detour to the hospital.

2. ESR – Electrical Shock Resistance
The white rectangle with the Omega symbol is the ESR marking. It means your boot provides protection against electrical shocks, up to 18,000 volts, with a leakage current under 1 mA. This is a big advantage if you work near live circuits or energized equipment: your sole acts as an insulating barrier between you and the danger. A discreet superpower, but a very real one.

3. Metatarsal Protection – The Shield for the Top of Your Foot
The grey rectangle with the “M” indicates metatarsal protection. It protects the top of your foot from impacts up to 101.7 J — ideal for environments where things really get rough: falling loads, rolling objects, high‑risk zones.

Good to know: this protection can be external (visible, added on top of the boot) or internal (built into the structure). At Pilote & Filles, we chose the internal version. Why? Because we want you to be reinforced without looking reinforced. No bulky shell over your style — just effective, discreet, flexible, and comfortable protection that blends perfectly with your look.

In Summary
Choosing a Pilote & Filles boot with the right certifications isn’t just ticking a technical box. It’s giving yourself peace of mind, knowing someone thought of everything for you. Your feet are protected from heavy impacts, electricity, and all the unexpected moments that come with the job. You can walk, run, lift, climb, without feeling like you’re dragging two anvils around. That’s exactly the idea behind our designs: boots that meet the standards… but above all, boots that respect you and the work you do every day.
